Goathland

Goathland is a popular moorland village with scenic views, wide verges and greens high on the North Yorkshire Moors.  The moorland sheep can be seen roaming around the village.  Goathland is also one of the stations on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway route.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway provides some 18 miles of preserved steam railway running through the spectacular scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors between Pickering and Grosmont.  The line is owned by the North Yorkshire Historical Railway Trust who have run the line as a living museum since 1974.

Goathland is also famous as the fictional village Aidensfield in the series Heartbeat on UK television. Views of the village and the station are familiar to millions of viewers world-wide.  The station also featured in the popular Harry Potter films as Hogwarts Station.

War Time Weekend

Every October, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway recaptures the spirit of the second world war and pays tribute to the men and women who kept Britain's railways running. Groups of skilled re-enactors help to create the authentic atmosphere that has earned this event an international reputation for authenticity.  Steam trains depart with servicemen and women, factory workers, land army girls, nurses...and you.  The weekend begins on Friday with the ceremonial flag raising, and continues until it is lowered again on Sunday.
